As a vocalist with a background in health sciences and experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team including speech and language pathologists (SLP), maintaining vocal health is of utmost importance to me. I educate students about vocal function, guide them in understanding the importance of warm ups and exercises, maintaining proper hydration and identifying/managing vocal strain. By instilling healthy vocal habits, students are able to develop and sustain a strong and resilient voice.
I believe that effective voice teaching goes beyond technical instruction and encompasses the holistic development of each student. My teaching philosophy is centered around meeting students where they are in their musical journey, fostering a safe and inclusive environment, embracing the importance of vocal health, incorporating theory and ear training and valuing both the journey and the process.
Creating a safe and inclusive space for students to explore and express their voices is paramount. I strive to cultivate an environment where students feel comfortable taking risks, expressing themselves authentically, and embracing their uniqueness. By fostering trust, mutual respect, and open communication, I create a supportive atmosphere that encourages artistic growth and self-discovery.
I also believe in integrating elements of music theory and ear training into voice lessons to enhance students' musical understanding and proficiency. By helping students develop their theoretical knowledge and ear-training skills, they are empowered to make informed musical choices, improve their pitch accuracy, and deepen their musical expression.
I recognize that each student has unique goals, strengths, and challenges. As a voice teacher, I am committed to understanding and appreciating their individuality, tailoring my approach to their specific needs and aspirations. I value the journey and process as much as the final outcome, encouraging students to embrace the joy of learning, explore their creativity, and develop a lifelong love for music. By fostering a growth mindset, encouraging exploration, and embracing challenges, students can persevere, learn from setbacks, and develop resilience in their musical pursuits.
I am dedicated to nurturing the artistic growth, personal development and vocal health of each student, empowering them to discover their unique voice and confidently express themselves through music.
